Safeway Buys Remaining Stake in GroceryWorks

Safeway Inc. on Tuesday said it purchased the 43.8 percent of online shopping and delivery company GroceryWorks it did not already own, making GroceryWorks a wholly owned subsidiary.

GroceryWorks is Safeway's exclusive provider for online grocery shopping and home delivery.

Pleasanton, California-based Safeway, the No. 3 traditional U.S. grocery chain, did not disclose terms of the deal in a statement and could not be immediately reached for comment.

GroceryWorks operates Safeway.com in the San Francisco Bay Area; Sacramento, California; Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Phoenix; and the Washington D.C. markets, and operates VONS.com in Southern California and Las Vegas.
