Shop Stewards

Local 324 "shop stewards" are your fellow employees selected for advanced participation in your Union operations. Each location (shop) under contract is to have at least one steward who, ultimately, serves the membership as a source of assistance and information.

To better prepare the membership for upcoming food negotiations, we invited all food store shop stewards to attend "negotiations update" meetings during December 2006. Your shop stewards received up-to-date information outlining strategies and issues impacting each of you. In addition to passing along this important news, shop stewards were called upon to gather different types of information.

If you are approached by your shop steward to share your views, please cooperate. All of the latest information can be found on our March to March 2007 page, from your shop steward, and or your Union Representative.

Job Offers

One of my duties is to keep you apprised of situations brought to me by your Union Representatives. I post them here under the title “Hot Topic” because of their importance to many of our members.

Your Union, again, has filed several grievances on one topic. More and more we are learning that Store Directors at Ralphs are recruiting members from other companies under contract with promises of pay at or near the top of the 2nd tier wage scale.

Members have accepted the new jobs and received the promised pay rate, for several weeks to a few months, until the payroll department determines that the rate of pay isn’t warranted based on previous experience. A pay decrease is implemented and the members are given excuses that the matter is "out-of-my-hands."

BEWARE! Wage levels not specified in your Union contract or otherwise provided for in writing may not be enforceable by your Union. Always check first with a Union Representative before accepting a job based on a verbal promise.
