If there is any single overriding principal that drives America’s Labor Movement it is this—There is strength in numbers. That theme is evident in everything we do and it is the guiding force behind our efforts to bring more workers into the union fold. When our numbers increase, so too does our ability to bargain effectively with some of the richest and most powerful companies in the world. It may seem obvious that working under the protections of a collective bargaining agreement is the wiser choice for someone not in the union. But ever since workers first began demanding rights on the job Big Business has spared no expense in preventing the growth of unions in America. Nowhere in the country is this scenario more evident than Southern California, home to a massive pool of skilled and unskilled workers as well as home to some of Wall Street’s most profitable corporations.
